Do Your Think It Needs A Cloud?

MILES McENERY GALLERY
511 West 22nd Street
New York, NY 10011

September 10 – October 10, 2020

The show’s title is based on a quotation by Jane Freilicher. The exhibition is comprised of contemporary paintings in dialogue with Post-War works, linking generations of artists as well as abstraction and depiction. The artists featured in Do You Think It Needs A Cloud? draw inspiration from the natural world as a leaping off point for artistic expression. The resulting works represent a unique coalescence of landscape and abstraction. . . .

Artists: BRIAN ALFRED, MILTON AVERY, WHITNEY BEDFORD, SEBASTIAN BLANCK, TOMORY DODGE, INKA ESSENHIGH, HELEN FRANKENTHALER, JANE FREILICHER, APRIL GORNIK, ISCA GREENFIELDSAMDERS, HANS HOFMANN, ANNIE LAPIN, JOAN MITCHELL, ROBERT MOTHERWELL, MICHAEL REAFSNYDER, PATRICK WILSON, and GUY YANAI.

PUBLIC ART PROJECT
Isca Greenfield-Sanders: Playground Parachutes
Vesuvio Playground, Soho, October 1, 2016 – October 31, 2016

Playground Parachutes (Pink, Yellow, Black and Blue) | Mixed Media with Color Pencil | 96 x 48 inches | 2016

Four large panels, each with 78 hand drawn tiles were created by the artist in collaboration with over 200 children.  The resulting images, four color parachutes, were based on Ms. Greenfield-Sanders’ 2008 painting series of the same subject.  This NYC Parks project was realized through collaboration with three downtown NYC based nonprofits Green Below 14SmartSpaces and the Children’s Museum of the Arts.  At the end of the project, one of the panels was donated to and is installed at the Lerner Children’s Pavilion at the Hospital for Special Surgery.  Another of the panels was donated to and is installed at the Administration for Children’s Services in New York City.
